At ReynCon Security, we believe the future of cybersecurity is shaped by leaders who inspire, innovate, and empower. We’re proud to spotlight these individuals and share their journeys, insights, and perspectives that drive the industry forward.
This time, we’re honored to feature Marianne Brown, a cybersecurity leader whose unique career path and dedication to empowering others exemplify the best of our industry. With a strong background in banking, investments, and IT, Marianne made a pivotal decision to transition into the world of cybersecurity, guided by her passion for learning and a deep commitment to helping others succeed.
We asked Marianne:
❔What motivated you to pursue a career in cybersecurity, and what has been a pivotal moment in your journey?
🅰️ Marianne: After dedicating much of my career to supporting executives in banking, investments, and technology, I recognized a desire to transition into a more hands-on role as an IT practitioner. Determined to make an informed decision, I spent months engaging with professionals across our IT organization, learning about their roles, challenges, and career trajectories. During this exploration, our CISO encouraged me to consider a path in cybersecurity, emphasizing that diverse experiences enrich the profession and that there would be ample opportunities for growth and learning.
This encouragement, coupled with the unwavering support of inspiring leaders and colleagues, ignited my passion for cybersecurity and shaped my commitment to helping others navigate their professional journeys. Through initiatives like Empower Women of Infosec, ISSA, and Pink Umbrella, I’ve been privileged to give back to the community, fostering opportunities to inspire and guide others in pursuing rewarding careers in cybersecurity.
❔What qualities do you believe are essential for the next generation of cybersecurity professionals, and how can we nurture those qualities?
🅰️ Marianne: One of the most critical lessons in cybersecurity is the necessity of anticipating the unexpected. As the field evolves rapidly, the ability to think innovatively and approach challenges from unconventional perspectives is key. Equally essential is the agility to adapt and pivot in response to shifting threats and technological advancements. To cultivate these competencies, it is vital to prioritize continuous learning, nurture creative problem-solving, and create environments that empower emerging professionals to experiment, innovate, and grow.
❔As a leader in the cybersecurity space, how do you define effective leadership, especially in a rapidly changing industry?
🅰️ Marianne: Throughout my IT career, I have been fortunate to work alongside some of the most intelligent, effective, and supportive leaders. To me, effective leadership is rooted in the ability to build and empower cohesive, high-performing teams. When supported by strong leadership, teams can collaborate seamlessly, navigate change with confidence, and achieve outstanding results. True leadership is about inspiring individuals to reach their full potential while cultivating a culture of resilience, adaptability, and continuous growth.
Thank you, Marianne, for sharing your journey and insights with us. Your dedication to empowering others and driving innovation in cybersecurity is truly inspiring. At ReynCon Security, we’re thrilled to collaborate with leaders like you to shape the future of our industry.
